BALTIMORE, Md.—The Hobart College Soccer team was defeated by seventh-ranked Johns Hopkins 2-0 in a non-conference contest on Homewood Field this afternoon. The contest was the final game of the 2023 Blue Jay Invitational.
Ry Cohen started in goal for the second straight game for the Statesmen (1-3-0). He made six saves.
Four different players landed on the scoresheet for Johns Hopkins (2-1-2). JP Furman played all 90 minutes in goal and made one save for the Blue Jays.
SCORING SUMMARY
- Will Andrus opened the scoring in the eighth minute, heading home a crossing pass from Ben Goodman. It was Andrus' first goal of the season.
- Scotty Coleman extended the lead to two goals in the 44th minute. He collected a through ball from Jonathan Cui, dribbled the ball 25 yards and slipped a shot past a charging Cohen for his first goal of the season.
CHANCES
- Griffin Meyer had a chance to extend Johns Hopkins' lead to 2-0 in the 27th minute, but his shot from the top of the 18-yard box was stopped by Cohen.
- Late in the first half, Nolan Fierro had a shot from 20 yards out smothered by Furman.
- In the 37th minute, Quinn Phillips' shot from the top of the 18-yard box was blocked by a defender.
- First-year La Zai Outerbridge ripped a shot just over the crossbar in the closing minutes of the first half.

- Johns Hopkins finished the game with a 12-6 advantage in shots.
- The Blue Jays had an 8-1 edge in corner kicks.

Hobart will be back in action on Wednesday, Sept. 13, when it welcomes Nazareth to Cozzens Field. The game is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
