Wamhoff named to Liberty League Weekly Honor Roll

The William Smith College volleyball team will host Alfred University in a midweek nonconference matchup on Tuesday, Sept 12. First serve is set for 7 p.m. in Bristol Gymnasium.

ABOUT THE HERONS:
  • William Smith enters the week with a 5-1 record after collecting three wins over Hartwick, Thiel and SUNY Brockport this past weekend.
  • Junior setter Elaina Wamhoff was named to the Liberty League Weekly Honor Roll after three strong performances in the William Smith Tournament. Wamhoff was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
  • Sophomore Malya Sayre leads the Herons with 95 kills on the season, averaging a league-best 4.32 kills per set. Sophomore Marin Montagne follows with 56 kills through six matches, averaging 2.55 kills per set which is 10th in the Liberty League.
  • Wamhoff sits at 187 assists on the year, averaging a conference second-best 8.50 assists per set. Wamhoff is 52nd in the nation in assists per set.
  • First-year Maysie Malinaric leads the Herons with 70 digs, averaging 3.18 digs per set which is sixth best in the conference. Montagne has chipped in 50 digs, averaging 2.27 per set.
  • William Smith leads the conference in service aces with 76 as a team (3.45/set). Sayre leads the league with 19 aces, averaging 0.86 per set. Malinaric has chipped in 17 (0.77/set).
ABOUT THE SAXONS:
  • Alfred brings a 3-3 record into Tuesday's match. The Saxons went 3-0 last weekend, defeating Plattsburgh State, SUNY Oneonta, and SUNY Morrisville.
  • Taylor Malone leads the team with 81 kills, averaging 3.68 kills per set.
  • Delaney Sims sits at 191 assists this season, averaging 8.68 assists per set.
  • Darian Ortiz has recorded a team-leading 99 digs, averaging 4.50 digs per set for the Saxons.
  • Ortiz also leads the team in service aces with 17 (0.77).
 
SERIES SNAPSHOT:
  • Tuesday's match will be the second meeting between the Herons and the Saxons.
  • William Smith defeated Alfred 3-0 last fall in the Herons' season opener in Alfred.
