Herons face Falcons in top 5 showdown

The fifth-ranked William Smith College soccer team begins a two-game road trip tomorrow, Sept. 16, when it travels to Grantham, Pennsylvania, to face top-ranked Messiah University. The match is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m. on the Falcons' Shoemaker Field.
 
The Herons are 3-0-1 to start the season and are coming off a 2-2 draw against the University of Rochester last Sunday. Julia DiMenna and Shayna Straney scored for William Smith. Ava Ruppersberger and Ruth Hotaling had the assists on the goals.
 
Messiah is 4-1-0. And is looking to bounce back from their first loss of the season. The Falcons were edged by McDaniel this past Wednesday, 1-0.

ABOUT THE HERONS
  • Ava Ruppersberger leads the Herons with six points on two goals and two assists.
  • Three other Herons have an assist.

  • Raegan Salamore has a slight edge in goalie minutes played for the Falcons. She is 2-1-0 with a 0.33 GAA and an .857 save percentage. Ava Wert is 2-0-0 with a 0.50 GAA and a .833 save percentage.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Saturday will be the 16th meeting between the Herons and the Falcons.
  • Messiah leads the all-time series 7-5-3, but the series is deadlocked 2-2-1 in Grantham.
  • In the last meeting, the Falcons scored in the 77th minute to secure a 2-1 victory on Cozzens Field.
