The Hobart and William Smith Sailing team was in action at three regattas this past weekend. Heather Kerns and Elizabeth Starck represented the Herons at the Faye Bennet Trophy in Annapolis, Md. It was the third consecutive year that the duo competed in the Middle Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association Women's Singlehanded Championship.
 
The colleges also competed in two other regattas in Ithaca, New York. The Susan Rogers Women's Invite and Jack Boehringer Open Invite, both hosted by Cornell. The trip to Ithaca was highlighted by a fourth-place finish by HWS in the Jack Boehringer.
 
FAYE BENNET TROPHY

• Kerns and Starck finished the singlehanded conference championship in 8th and 9th place respectively.
• Fourteen races were contested on the weekend.
• Kerns had five top-five finishes and was in the top 10 eight times, ending the weekend with 126 points.
• Just behind her, Starck compiled 127 points, including a first-place finish in her third race.

 
JACK BOEHRINGER '52 OPEN INVITE

• Three boats competed for the colleges.
• HWS' boat of senior Will Murray, junior Colin DuBose, and sophomore Valyn Mogensen finished fourth overall with 91 points. They were in the top 10 in 10 of the 14 races, winning twice.
• Sophomore Juan Carlos Lacerda Jones, senior Thomas Walker, junior Rachel Duggan, sophomore Elijah Goldman and junior Frances Depke were 11th overall with 150 points. They had five top 10 finishes.
• First-years JJ Klempen and Maya Mahoney, sophomores Cooper Delbridge, Nico Garcia-Castrillon and Cooper Delbridge and junior Rachel Duggan were 13th with 161 points.

 
SUSAN ROGERS WOMEN'S INVITE

• Two boats represented the Herons, finishing in 10th and 17th place.
• Junior Brook Wood and first years Stella Kim and Ella Donaldson led their boat to 10th place, finishing with 155 points. They were in the top 10 six times.
• First years Bennett O'Keefe and Reilly Roedel, and sophomore Juliana Victor finished the weekend with 237 points.

 
UP NEXT
The Colleges will be back in action next weekend, Sept. 23-24, for three regattas. They will travel back to Annapolis to compete for the MAISA Match Race Championship. HWS will also travel back to Kings Point, New York for the MAISA Top Nine Combined and ILCA7 Regatta.
