ROCHESTER, N.Y.—The William Smith College soccer team and Rochester Institute of Technology battled to a 1-1 draw in a Liberty League contest at Tiger Stadium this evening. The Herons, who are ranked first in the United Soccer Coaches poll, are now 4-0-2 overall with a 0-0-1 record in conference play.
Julia DiMenna notched her team-leading third goal of the season for William Smith.
Kirsten Nelson played all 90 minutes in goal and made one save.
Emma Pedro scored for the Tigers (2-4-1, 0-0-1). Emily Sanchez played all 90 minutes in goal, making six saves.

FIRST HALF
- William Smith had the game's first scoring chance in the 10th minute. DiMenna had a shot from just outside the 18-yard box smothered by Sanchez.
- The Herons took a 1-0 lead in the 16th minute. DiMenna collected a bouncing ball in the 18-yard box and slipped a shot into the lower left corner of the cage. Julia Berg was awarded an assist on the goal.
- RIT tied the game 10 minutes later on a counterattack. Elena Onodera fired a shot off the cross bar. Pedro pounced on the rebound and chipped a shot past Nelson for her first collegiate goal. Onodera and Olivia Harris were awarded assists on the goal.
- Ruth Hotaling nearly gave William Smith a 2-1 lead in the 33rd minute, but Sanchez made a diving save.
SECOND HALF
- William Smith controlled the second half holding possession in the RIT end of the field for a majority of the final 45 minutes.
- In the 51st minute Ava Ruppersberger had a shot from near the top of the 18-yard box blocked by a Tiger defender
- In the 79th minute, Marjorie Plants chipped a shot just over the crossbar. In the 89th minute Plants got her head on a corner kick but the ball sailed just over the net.
- Ruppersberger had one last chance in the closing seconds, but her shot was blocked by a defender.
UP NEXT
William Smith will be back in action on Saturday, Sept. 23, when it returns home to begin a three-game homestand. The Herons will take on Skidmore at 3 p.m. on Cozzens Field.
