Four Hobart sailors will be on the water at Kings Point, New York, competing for the Carl Van Duyne Trophy this weekend, Sept. 30-Oct. 1. The regatta is the Middle Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association Men's Singlehanded Championship.
Â
Nick Sessions,
Nico Garcia-Castrillon,
Owen Harrod and
Jack Carter will represent the Statesmen at this year's MAISA Championship. They qualified for the event by virtue of their finishes at the Laser North Qualifier earlier this month. Sessions won the regatta. Garcia-Castrillon was fourth with Carter and Harrod finishing in a tie for seventh. They will be joined by 14 other sailors from eight schools in the quest for the conference championship. Â
Â
Sessions will be making his third appearance at the Carl Van Duyne. Last year, in Annapolis, Maryland, Sessions was second overall. As a sophomore, he finished in fourth place.
Â
Harrod and Garcia-Castrillon both competed for the trophy last year. They finished 17th and 18th, respectively.
Â
HWS will also compete in two other regattas this past weekend. William Smith sailors will be in St. Mary's City, Maryland, for the Women's ACC Eliminations. The Colleges will also be in New London, Connecticut, for the Danmark Trophy.
