For the first time in program history, the William Smith College volleyball team will host a multi-team tournament. Now in their second varsity season, the Herons will welcome Hartwick College, Thiel College and SUNY Brockport for the 2023 William Smith Tournament this weekend. The Herons will take on the Hawks Friday, Sept. 8, at 7 p.m., followed by the Tomcats and Golden Eagles Saturday Sept. 9, at 1 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively.

ABOUT THE HERONS:
- William Smith enters the weekend with a 2-1 record after defeating Linfield University 3-1 and Western New England University 3-0 at the Eastern Nazarene College Invitational last weekend. The Herons fell to the host Lions 3-1.
- Sophomore Malya Sayre was named the Liberty League Performer of the Week after leading the Herons in all three matches of opening weekend.
- Sayre paces the Herons with 52 kills, averaging a league-leading 4.64 kills per set and 5.23 points per set. Sophomore Marin Montagne follows closely behind with 30 kills (2.73/set).
- Junior Elaina Wamhoff sits at 859 career assists, recording 97 this season. She averages a league-leading 8.82 assists per set and also brings a strong serving presence to the game as she has recorded seven services aces through three matches.
- First-year Maysie Malinaric leads the team in digs with 43, averaging 3.91 digs per set, which has her third in the Liberty League. Sophomore Jaylynn McCarthy has chipped in 30 digs this season (2.73/set).
- William Smith shows a strong presence at the net, recording 14 blocks as a team. Leading the way for the Herons is first-year Lindsay Umlauf with seven, followed by Wamhoff with five.
ABOUT THE HAWKS:
- Hartwick enters the weekend at 1-2 after competing in the Cortland Red Dragons Classic last weekend. The Hawks defeated St. Lawrence University and fell to the University of Rochester and SUNY Cortland.
- Staecia Silofau leads the Hawks with 27 kills (2.45/set).
- Vanessa Seymour leads the team in assists with 74 (6.73/set).
ABOUT THE TOMCATS:
- Thiel enters the weekend 0-6 after falling to Grove City College and Allegheny College on Wednesday.
- Daisy Jenness leads the Tomcats with 23 kills (1.44/set).
- Carlie Reynolds has a team-leading 46 assists (3.07/set).
ABOUT THE GOLDEN EAGLES:
- Brockport enters the weekend 0-4 after falling to John Carroll University, Albion College, Marietta College, and University of Mount Union at the Mount Union Tournament last weekend.
- Jordan Thompson leads the Golden Eagles with 42 kills on the season (3.00/set)
- Ashley Allen has a team-leading 74 assists (5.29/set).
SERIES HISTORY:
- Friday's match will be the second meeting between the Herons and the Hawks.
- William Smith defeated Hartwick 3-2 last fall in Oneonta. Sophomore Hope Von Dohlen led the Herons with 19 kills.
- Saturday's matchup with the Tomcats will be the first meeting between the two sides.
- Saturday's second match will be the second meeting between the Herons and the Golden Eagles.
- Brockport defeated William Smith 3-2 last fall in Brockport. Sayre recorded eight kills in the five-set thriller.
