Golden Eagles swim past Statesmen

BROCKPORT, N.Y.- The Hobart College swimming and diving team was back in action at SUNY Brockport Saturday afternoon in the James B. Fulton Natatorium. The Golden Eagles edged the Statesmen 187-49 to drop Hobart to 2-6 on the season. 
 
First-year Christopher Woody led Hobart with top two finishes in three different events. Woody came in first place in the 50-yard breaststroke, stopping the clock at 29.48 to give the Statesmen nine team points. He then followed that up with a second-place finish in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:04.75 and a second-place finish in the 100-yard IM, stopping the clock at 1:00.58. 
 
First-year Nate Dwyer added two second place finishes for the Statesmen. He finished second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 55.47 and clocked in at 30.57 for a runner-up finish in the 50-yard backstroke event. Classmate Holton Frank earned Hobart four points with a second-place finish in the 50-yard butterfly event, stopping the clock at 31.38.
 
Sophomore Tillman Washington led the Statesmen from the diving boards, grabbing second-place finishes from both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards. Washington earned 191.40 points from the 1-meter board and 175.50 from the 3-meter board to secure Hobart eight team points.

"We had a really good showing for our first meet post-training trip," said Head Coach R.C. Weston. "The guys worked hard all week in Florida and to have a quick turnaround and swim and dive as well as they did was impressive. We knew what we were up against for this meet and just like every tough contest we've faced this year, our guys maintained their focus on what we are working towards. It was exciting to see their energy and effort and we walked away with a few lifetime best times."
 
UP NEXT
 
The Statesmen will be back in action Saturday, Jan. 20, when they head to SUNY Oswego to take on the Lakers and Roberts Wesleyan. The meet is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. in Laker Pool.
