Herons host Liberty League foes Ithaca, RIT this weekend

The William Smith College basketball team will welcome Ithaca and RIT to Bristol Gymnasium this weekend for back-to-back Liberty League contests. Tipoff between the Herons and the Bombers is set for Friday, Jan. 26, at 5:30 p.m., followed by a matchup with the Tigers on Saturday at 2 p.m.
 
Fans who cannot make it to Bristol Gymnasium this weekend can follow the action with HWS All-Access Video and Live Stats. The games will be broadcast on WHWS-FM (105.7 in Geneva).

ABOUT THE HERONS
  • William Smith is 4-13 overall with a 4-6 mark in conference play. The Herons are coming off a 2-0 weekend that saw William Smith top St. Lawrence and Clarkson to grab two crucial conference wins.
  • Senior guard Brooke Jarvis was named to the Liberty League weekly honor roll after recording back-to-back double-doubles, combining for 34 points and 29 rebounds.
  • Jarvis leads the Liberty League in scoring, averaging 16.1 points per game. She is followed by first-year Amelia McCulley who averages 6.6 per game.
  • Jarvis grabs a team-leading 8.4 rebounds per game, which is fourth in the conference. Junior Maddie Patrick is in the top-20 in the conference in rebounding as well, averaging 5.2 per game.
  • First-year Jazzmyn Lewis has created a spark for the Herons' defense, forcing 31 steals this season. Her 2.1 steals per game puts her second in the league.
  • Patrick (5th), McCulley (10th) and Jarvis (12th) all rank in the top-15 in the Liberty League in blocks, combining for 46 on the season.
ABOUT THE BOMBERS
  • Ithaca brings a 13-3 overall record to Geneva with a 7-2 record in conference play. The Bombers are coming off a 66-59 Liberty League loss to Skidmore College last Friday.
  • Graduate student June Dickson leads Ithaca in scoring, averaging 12.9 points per game. Classmate Camryn Coffey (11.0 ppg) and junior Annabella Yorio (10.1) also average double-digit points for the Bombers.
  • Junior Anya Watkins grabs a team-leading 7.4 rebounds per game while Yorio grabs 7.1.
  • Sophomore Zoraida Icabalceta's 1.6 assist-to-turnover leads the conference. She leads the Bombers with 40 assists.
ABOUT THE TIGERS  
  • RIT enters the weekend with a 6-10 overall record and a 5-4 mark in the Liberty League. The Tigers will head to Troy, New York, to take on RPI Friday before Saturday's matchup with the Herons.
  • Junior Hannah Durand averages a team-leading 13.6 points per game while senior Emma Waite averages 10.0.
  • Senior Mya Richardson leads the Tigers with 5.8 rebounds per game.
  • Waite tops the Liberty League in assists with 72. She is second in the conference with a 1.4 assist-to-turnover.
SERIES SNAPSHOT
  • William Smith and Ithaca will face off for the 55th time on Friday. The Bombers lead the series 31-23 with the Herons holding a 14-12 advantage in Bristol Gymnasium.
  • When they met earlier this season, Ithaca defeated William Smith 76-38 in Ithaca. Jarvis led the Herons with 16 points and five rebounds, reaching the 1,000-career point mark with her 14th point of the day.
  • William Smith and RIT will face off for the 46th time on Saturday. The Herons lead the series 31-14, including a 15-7 edge in Geneva.
  • Earlier this season the Tigers defeated the Herons 77-75 in Rochester. Jarvis led William Smith with 19 points and 11 rebounds while first-year Miranda Martin chipped in 16 points and two rebounds.
