The William Smith field hockey team will be home this Saturday as it welcomes Union to Geneva for a crucial Liberty League matchup. Action between the Herons and the Garnet Chargers is set for 1 p.m. on McCooey Field.
William Smith will host its second annual "'Kids Day" on Saturday, welcoming children from the Geneva community to grow the game of field hockey in the Finger Lakes region. The Herons will welcome kids' kindergarten through eighth grade to participate in the walk out to midfield for lineups and the National Anthem.Â
Fans who can't make it to McCooey Field can follow the action with HWS All-Access Video and Live Stats. The game will be broadcast on WHWS-FM (105.7 in Geneva).
ABOUT THE HERONS:
- William Smith enters the weekend with a 5-7 overall record, including a 1-1 mark in Liberty League play. The Herons are coming off a 3-2 double overtime loss at No. 18 Rochester on Wednesday.
- Senior Hannah Huston was named Liberty League Defensive Player of the Week after scoring the game winning goal against No. 19 Ithaca on Saturday. First-year Mia Batchelder was named to the weekly honor roll after scoring twice last week in wins against Houghton and Ithaca.

- First-year Baker Jeremiah has played the majority of minutes in goal for the Herons. She is 5-7 on the season with a 1.83 goals against average and a .656 save percentage.

- Union brings a 7-4 overall record to Geneva with a 1-1 mark in conference play. The Garnet Chargers are coming off a 3-2 win over the Yellowjackets in double overtime.
- Maddie Greco leads the team with 22 points on 10 goals and two assists. Shaelyn Kelley follows with 10 points on three goals and four assists.
- Sophie Brady has the edge in minutes played in goal for the Garnet Chargers. She is 5-3 with a 1.84 GAA and a 0.769 save percentage.
