GENEVA, N.Y.—The William Smith field hockey team rallied from a 2-0 first quarter deficit to tie the game and force overtime, but Union's Maddie Greco scored in the eighth minute of overtime to lift the visiting Garnet Chargers to a 3-2 Liberty League victory.
Greco swept home the game winner after Reese Fendelet fired a shot that spun off of Heron first-year goalie
Baker Jeremiah's pads. Fendelet got a goal of her own in the 15th minute while Amy Vytopilova opened the scoring.

MATCH MOMENTS
- William Smith put Union under pressure right from the opening whistle.
- The Herons got three corners before the match was two minutes old.
- William Smith came close to breaking through on its second corner. Senior Hannah Huston put a shot on target that was kicked aside by Union goalie Sophie Brady.
- First-year Mia Batchelder followed with a shot that slipped past Brady and was headed for the back of the cage, but Kat Bruun cleared it off the goal line for a defensive save.
- On Union's second corner, Megan Dorsey fired a shot toward the goal that was blocked by a Heron defender. The ball popped up in the air across the front of the cage and Vytopilova hit it inside the far goal post for the early lead.
- The Garnet Chargers added to their lead in the final minute of the first quarter. Rachel Ostiguy fed Fendelet, who scored from the right post.
- It remained a 2-0 game into halftime, despite William Smith's 9-3 advantage in shots.
- Early in the third quarter, Freeland scored her second goal of the season, collecting a rebound of Brady's pads and firing it into the goal.
- The Herons pulled even in the 51st minute when Kogut batted a ball out of the air into the netting. Junior Abby Jones lifted the ball to earn the assist.
IN GOAL
- Brady made 12 saves on the day to earn the win. She was busiest in the second quarter, recording six stops.
- Jeremiah logged five saves, all in overtime, for the Herons.

- William Smith will be back in action Friday, Oct. 18. The Herons will host Skidmore (6-7, 1-2) on McCooey Field at 4 p.m.
