Swimming & Diving to host Fredonia in home opener Saturday

The Hobart and William Smith swimming and diving teams are set to host Fredonia Saturday, Oct. 19, for their 2024-25 home opener. The action in Bristol Pool is set to start at 11 a.m.

The Herons are coming off a second-place finish at the Hartwick Relay Meet on Sunday. First-year diver Hannah Walsh was named to the Liberty League Weekly Honor Roll after an impressive performance in her collegiate debut. Walsh earned her first collegiate win from the 3-meter board with a score of 187.05. She also scored 172.25 from the 1-meter board for a third place showing. William Smith also finished in second place seven times in the Hartwick Relay Meet.

William Smith is 4-0 all-time against Fredonia. Last time the Herons took on the Blue Devils, William Smith put on a dominant performance and defeated Fredonia 227-62 on Oct. 21, 2023. The Herons touched the wall first in all 16 events and were led by sophomore Mackenzie Morus who tallied three first place wins. Junior Lea Emanuel also had a standout performance, factoring into four wins.

The Statesmen are coming off a fourth-place finish at the Hartwick Relay Meet led by junior diver Daniel Barrientos who won from both the 1 and 3-meter boards. Barrientos earned a score of 248.85 from the 3-meter board, winning by over 85 points, and a 229.75 from the 1-meter board to win first. He was named the Liberty League Diver of the Week for his performances at Hartwick.

Last season, Hobart defeated Fredonia 125-65 to earn its first win of the season. Sophomore Christopher Woody led the Statesmen with three first-place finishes against the Blue Devils. Classmate Nate Dwyer added two first place finishes, including a win in the 200-yard medley relay with Woody, sophomore Holton Frank and junior Randall Dominguez.
