The Hobart and William Smith sailing team competed in a pair of conference championship regattas this past weekend, Oct. 26-27. HWS sailors picked up a pair of fifth place finishes on the weekend.

HWS traveled to St. Mary's City, Maryland, to compete in the War Memorial Regatta, the Middle Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association coed dinghy fall championship. William Smith sailors traveled to Norfolk, Virginia, to compete in the MAISA Women's Fall Dinghy Championship

WAR MEMORIAL
- Sailors arrived to sunshine and a nice breeze on Saturday. A shifty northerly breeze led to a great day of racing with 12 races in each division being completed. Sunday  saw much lighter breezes but teams were able to complete the final six races in each division.
- HWS came in fifth overall, with a total of 225 points.
- The A Division team of junior Juan Carlos Lacerda Jones and senior Frances Depke placed fourth with 103 points.
- Lacerda Jones and Depke had top-ten finishes in all but one race and nine top-five finishes, including a win in the third race.
- In B Division, sophomore Jeffrey Klempen, senior Rachel Duggan, and junior Cooper Delbridge finished seventh with 122 points. They were in the top 10 in 15 races and picked up four victories.
- Lacerda Jones and Klempen served as skippers for the races, with Depke, Duggan, and Delbridge as crew.
- The hosts, St. Mary's College of Maryland bat Navy in the final race to capture the conference championship.

MAISA WOMEN'S FALL DINGHY
- On Saturday, sailors took to the water in a 4-7 knot breeze out of the northwest. After three races the wind shifted and picked up to 11-22 knots. Eight races in each division were completed. On Sunday, an additional five races in each division were contested in a breeze out of the north.
- HWS finished the weekend with 149 points.
- The B Division team of first-years Deana Fedulova and Olivia Wilkins led the way for the Herons, finishing fourth with 59 total points. The duo finished top-ten in all but one race. They won the final race of the weekend.
- In the A division, senior Elizabeth Starck and sophomore Ella Donaldson finished with 90 total points. The pair were sixth in the division and finished every race in the top-ten.
- Skippers for the races were Starck and Fedulova, Donaldson and Wilkins served as crew.
- Cornell won the conference championship by 53 points over Georgetown.
