Statesmen, #17 Bengals battle to scoreless draw

BUFFALO, N.Y.---The Hobart soccer team and 17th-ranked Buffalo State battled to a 0-0 tie in a non-conference contest at Coyer Field this afternoon.  With the tie, Hobart is now 5-5-5 on the season.
 
Junior Thomas Chyzowych played all 90 minutes in goal for the Statesmen. He is 5-5-5 on the season with six shutouts.
 
Shae Wirt started in goal for Buffalo State (14-1-3). He made five saves.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Hobart finished the game with a 15-12 advantage in shots, including a 5-2 edge in shots on goal.
  • Buffalo State had five corner kicks, and the Statesmen had two.
 
MATCH MOMENTS
  • Hobart outshot Buffalo State 7-4 in the first 45 minutes.
  • First-year Brady Leitner had the game's first scoring chance in the 23rd minute. His shot was turned aside by Wirt.
  • Four minutes later, Wirt made a stop on a Griffin Patterson shot.
  • In the 28th minute, Sa-Jan Magar nearly opened the scoring but the shot was turned aside by a diving Chyzowych.
  • Late in the half, Chyzowych moved to his left and smothered a Frank Collella shot.
  • Both teams had eight shots in the second half.
  • In the 55th minute, first-year Will Slayton ripped a shot on cage that was punched over the crossbar by Wirt.  
  • In the closing stages of the game, Will Redman was denied by Wirt. 
  • Sophomore Keegan Mulroony had Hobart's last chance of the game but Wirt was there to preserve the shutout.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • With today's tie, Hobart is now 7-0-2 all-time against Buffalo State.
  • Both ties have come in Buffalo.
 
UP NEXT
Hobart will conclude its regular season on Saturday, Nov. 2, when it heads to Canton, New York, to take on St. Lawrence. The game is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
