Herons host Lakers Saturday in regular season finale

The William Smith field hockey team will be back in action this weekend as it welcomes SUNY Oswego to Geneva for its regular-season finale. The Herons are set to host the Lakers on Saturday, Nov. 2, at noon on McCooey Field.  
 
Fans who can't make it to McCooey Field can follow the action with HWS All-Access Video and Live Stats. The game will be broadcast on WHWS-FM (105.7 in Geneva). 

Prior to Saturday's game, William Smith will honor its four seniors with a brief ceremony.
 
ABOUT THE HERONS: 

  • William Smith enters the weekend with an 8-9 record. The Herons are coming off a 4-2 win over RPI Sunday that saw four different players score. 
  • First-year Caroline Kogut and senior Hannah Huston were recognized by the Liberty League after two strong performances last week. Kogut was named the conference's rookie of the week, while Huston landed on the weekly honor roll after the two combined for five goals and two assists.
  • Kogut leads the team with 25 points on 11 goals and three assists. She has scored in five of the last six games for William Smith. Kogut ranks third in the conference in defensive saves with four and ranks sixth in goals per game (0.65) and points per game (1.47).
  • Huston follows with 13 points on four goals and five assists. She ranks 10th in the conference in assists per game (.29). Junior Abby Jones adds 11 points on four goals and three assists, while first-year Mia Batchelder has chipped in 10 points on four goals and two assists.
  • First-year Baker Jeremiah has played a majority of minutes in goal for William Smith. She is 8-9 on the season with a 1.86 goals against average and a .652 save percentage. Jeremiah has recorded two shutouts in her rookie season.

ABOUT THE LAKERS: 

  • Oswego comes to Geneva with a 6-11 overall record, and a 1-3 mark in the SUNYAC. The Lakers are coming off of a 5-0 loss to Ithaca on Wednesday. 
  • Bryleigh Beauchat leads the team with 14 points on six goals and two assists. She is followed by Kate McNally with 10 points on three goals and four assists. 
  • Sam Krautheim has played most of the minutes in goal for Oswego. She has a 2.72 GAA and a .808 save percentage. 

SERIES SNAPSHOTS: 

  • Saturday's game will be the 38th meeting between the Herons and the Lakers. William Smith holds a 32-4-1 advantage in the series, with a 20-1 record at home. 
  • Last time the teams met, William Smith defeated Oswego 4-0 in Oswego. Junior Delaney Williams scored the final goal for William Smith on a penalty stroke.
