#11 Herons host Saints on Senior Day

The 11th-ranked William Smith soccer team returns to Cozzens Field on Saturday, Nov. 2, for its last regular season match. The Herons will take on the St. Lawrence Saints at 2 p.m.
 
Immediately following the game, William Smith will recognize its nine seniors and four graduate students. The Herons' Class of 2025 is 57-8-14 in their four years on campus.  They have made three trips to the NCAA tournament, reaching the quarterfinals twice.
 
Fans who cannot make the trip to Geneva can follow all the action with HWS All-Access and Live Stats. The game will be broadcast on WHWS-FM (105.7) in Geneva.
 
ABOUT THE HERONS
  • William Smith is 10-3-3 overall this season, 5-1-2 in conference play. The Herons have won four straight matches.
  • Junior Ruth Hotaling leads the Herons with nine goals and 15 points. She is 30th in the nation in assists.
  • Seniors Marjorie Plants and Lindsay Ringbloom have five goals and 11 points each.
  • Graduate student Kirsten Nelson has played the majority of the minutes in goal for the Herons. She has a GAA of 0.71 and a .792 save percentage. Nelson's seven shutouts are 37th in the nation.
 
ABOUT THE SAINTS
  • St. Lawrence stands at 8-6-2, 2-4-2 in Liberty League play. The Saints are unbeaten in their last four games.
  • Grace Mochnal leads the Saints with five goals, four assists and 14 points.
  • Emma Casey is right behind her with four goals.
  • Darcie McDonough has played the majority of the minutes in goal. She has an 0.77 GAA and a .825 save percentage.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Saturday will be the 52nd meeting between the Herons and the Saints.
  • William Smith leads the all-time series 40-7-4, including a 22-2-2 record in Geneva.
  • In the last meeting, the Herons shut out the Saints 6-0. Ava Ruppersberger and Hotaling scored two goals each. Moira van der Putt and Marjorie Plants also scored.

  • William Smith enters decision day second in the conference with 17 points. The Herons clinched a playoff spot last weekend.

  • The Saints can qualify for the playoffs with a win AND an Ithaca win AND a tie between Clarkson and Union.
