GENEVA, N.Y.—The 11th-ranked William Smith soccer team scored a goal in each half to defeat seventh-ranked Tufts 2-1 on Cozzens Field this afternoon. With the win, William Smith is now 14-3-4 overall this season and advance to the third round of the NCAA tournament. The Jumbos finish the year with a 14-4-1 overall record.

Kirsten Nelson played al 90 minutes in goal and matched her career-high with eight saves.
Reese Birch scored for the Jumbos. Gigi Edwards played all 90 minutes in goal for Tufts and made five saves.

- With the win, William Smith advances to the sectional round for the eighth time in the last nine seasons. The Herons have made 12 trips to the sectionals since it was introduced in 2004.
- Tufts finished the game with a 20-10 advantage in shots. Both teams had four corner kicks.

- The Herons opened the scoring in the 25th minute. Darby ran onto a through ball from senior Moira van der Putt. She dribbled into the box and slotted a shot inside the right goal post. It was her sixth goal of the season.
- Bragg doubled the Herons lead in the 68th minute with her first collegiate goal. She blocked a Tufts' clearing attempt into the lower left corner of the cage.
- Tufts broke up the shutout bid in the 75th minute. Off a corner kick, Birch had a shot blocked by a William Smith defender. She picked up her own rebound and fired a shot past a charging Nelson. It was her fifth goal of the season.
MATCH MOMENTS
- The Herons had a chance to add a goal in the 31st minute, but senior Marjorie Plants' shot was blocked by a defender. The rebound fell right to junior Anna Nichols who chipped the shot just over the crossbar.
- In the 54th minute, Darby had a shot smothered by Edwards.
- The Jumbos had a golden opportunity to score in the 64th minute. Waverly Summer had her shot blocked by a William Smith defender. The rebound bid was stopped by Nelson, but the play was ruled offside before the shot.
