Huston, Herons blank Lakers on Senior Day

GENEVA, N.Y.—Senior Hannah Huston scored twice and recorded a career-high five points as the Herons knocked off Oswego 5-0 in a non-conference contest on McCooey Field this afternoon. With the win, William Smith concludes the regular season with a 9-9 overall record.
 
Huston had two goals and an assist to lead William Smith. First-year Caroline Kogut, junior Abby Jones and junior Anneliese Oetsen also scored for the Herons. First-year Baker Jeremiah played all 60 minutes in goal and made one save.
 
Sam Krautheim played all 60 minutes in goal for Oswego (6-11). She made 11 saves.
 
Prior to today's game, the Herons recognized their seniors, Katherine Jacobia, Rebecca Mantione, Hannah Huston and Charlotte Rohlfs.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • William Smith finished the game with a 29-2 advantage in shots.
  • The Herons had 15 penalty corners and Oswego had one.
 
THE FIRST PERIOD
  • William Smith opened the scoring in the 20th minute. Huston collected a pass from Lily Gutch and fired a shot into the right corner of the cage. It was her fifth goal of the season.
  • The Herons appeared to score a goal in the middle portion of the second quarter, but the goal was waved off after a video review.
  • Two minutes into the second half. Caroline Kogut stepped into the circle, spun around a defender and ripped a shot past Krautheim for her team-leading 12th goal of the season.
  • Jones gave the Herons a 3-0 lead in the 35th minute. She redirected a centering pass from Huston across the goal line for her fifth goal of the season.
  • In the 44th minute, Huston notched her second goal of the game. Standing on the left goalpost, she picked up a rebound and stuffed a shot across the goal line. It was her sixth goal of the season.
  • Oetsen added an insurance goal in the 49th minute. She collected a pass from Zoe Ugarteche and slipped the shot past Karutheim for her third goal of the season.
 
UP NEXT
William Smith will be back in action Tuesday, Nov. 5, when it Welcomes Skidmore to McCooey Field for the opening game of the Liberty League tournament. The game is set to begin at 5 p.m.
