#1 Hobart visits #14 Salve Regina for NEHC clash

The top-ranked Hobart hockey team hits the road this weekend, Nov. 22-23, for a two-game New England Hockey Conference series against 14th-ranked Salve Regina. The Statesmen and Seahawks will square off at Howard Rink in Middletown, Rhode Island. Friday's game is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. with Saturday's game set to start at 4 p.m.
 
Hobart is 6-0-0 to start the season with a 4-0-0 record in league play. The Statesmen are coming off a weekend sweep of UMass Boston. Hobart opened the weekend with a 7-1 win powered by a hat trick from junior Kahlil Fontana. The next day, Hobart won 6-2. Senior Shane Shell led the way with two goals.
 
Salve Regina is 4-1-0 overall with a 3-1-0 record in NEHC play. The Seahawks are coming off a split with Babson last weekend.

ABOUT THE STATESMEN
  • Hobart enters the weekend second in the NEHC in scoring offense (5.00) and first in scoring defense (1.00).
  • Junior Tanner Daniels leads the team with six goals and 10 points.
  • Senior Matthew Iasenza and sophomore Bauer Morrissey share the team lead with five assists each.
  • Juniors Damon Beaver and Mavrick Goyer have split time in goal for the Statesmen. Beaver has a 1.34 GAA and a .951 save percentage. Goyer has a 0.67 GAA and a .962 save percentage and two shutouts.
 
ABOUT THE SEAHAWKS
  • The newest member of the NEHC, Salve Regina is first in the conference in scoring offense (5.80) and ninth in scoring defense (3.40).
  • Arvega Hovsepyan leads the team with 10 points and is one of four skaters with four goals.
  • Teddie Hember has a team-high seven assists.
  • Cayden Bailey has the edge in minutes played in goal. He is 3-1-0 with a 3.87 GAA and a save percentage of .886. 
 
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • This weekend will be the eighth and ninth meeting between the Statesmen and the Seahawks.
  • Hobart is 7-0-0 all-time, including a record of 2-0-0 in Rhode Island.
  • Hobart and Salve Regina last met on Dec. 31, 2022 in Geneva. Hobart prevailed 2-1 in OT. Goyer made 27 saves in the win.
