Hobart hosts RIT in 1st Round

Leitner wins 3rd straight Liberty League Rookie of the Week

The Hobart soccer team will begin its postseason journey Tuesday, Nov 5, when it hosts Rochester Institute of Technology in the first round of the Liberty League Tournament. The Statesmen, who are the tournament's No. 4 seed, will face the No. 5 seeded Tigers at 1:30 p.m. on Cozzens Field.
 
The Statesmen wrapped up the regular season with a 5-5-6 overall record and a 4-2-3 record in conference play. The Statesmen secured the No. 4 seed with a 2-2 draw at St. Lawrence on Saturday. RIT is 6-9-1 overall with a 4-4-1 record in conference play.

ABOUT THE STATESMEN
  • First-year Brady Leitner leads the team with five goal and 10 points on the season. He was named the Liberty League Men's Soccer Rookie of the Week today following his two-goal performance against the Saints.
  • Sophomore La Zai Outerbridge is right behind him with four goals and nine points.
  • Junior Thomas Chyzowych has played every minute in net for the Statesmen this season. He has a GAA of 0.88 and a save percentage of .791 with six shutouts.
  • Hobart is the reigning Liberty League champion, defeating Ithaca College 4-1 on Cozzens Field last year.
 
ABOUT THE TIGERS
  • Jake Donahue and Selorm Dake lead the team with five points each. The pair also have a team-high two goals.
  • Senior goalie Jason Trapp has played every minute in goal. He is 6-9-1 with a 1.31 GAA and a .716 save percentage.
 
WHEN LAST WE MET
  • RIT beat Hobart 2-1 on Sept. 20 in Rochester.
  • Outerbridge opened the scoring in the fourth minute, but RIT netted the next two goals to secure the victory.
 
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Tuesday's match will be the 57th meeting between the two teams.
  • Hobart holds the advantage in the all-time series, with a record of 29-21-6, including a record of 15-9-3 in Geneva.
  • Hobart and RIT last met in the Liberty League Tournament in the semifinals in 2019. They battled to a 1-1 draw at RPI's East Campus Athletic Village. Hobart advanced to the championship game 4-3 in penalty kicks.
 
 
UP NEXT
The advancing team will take on Vassar on Friday in the semifinal round of the Liberty League Tournament.  The Brewers won the regular season title.
