Statesmen tripped up by RIT in Liberty League Tournament

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart soccer team was edged by Rochester Institute of Technology 1-0 in a Liberty League Tournament first round game on Cozzens Field this afternoon. With the loss, the Statesmen finish their 2025 season with a 5-6-6 overall record.
 
Junior Thomas Chyzowych played just over 83 minutes in goal and made five saves.  First-year Will Hudson played the final 6:49 in goal.
 
Selorm Dake scored for the Tigers. Jason Trapp played all 90 minutes in goal and made six saves.  RIT is now 7-9-1 on the season and advances to the semifinal of the Liberty League Tournament where they will take on Vassar.
 
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
  • Both teams finished the game with 12 shots, RIT had seven shots on goal and Hobart had six.
  • The Tigers held a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.
 
SCORING SUMMARY
  • RIT scored the game's lone goal in the 82nd minute. John Lucas broke into the box and fired a shot on cage that was turned aside by Chyzowych. The rebound fell to Dake who one-touched the ball across the goal line. It was his third goal of the season.
 
MATCH MOMENTS
  • RIT had the game's first scoring chance in the second minute. Rom Wasserman fired a shot at the lower right corner of the cage that was turned aside by Chyzowych.
  • In the ninth minute, first-year Will Slayton blasted a shot towards goal that was turned aside by Jason Trapp.
  • Jake Donahue nearly broke the deadlock a minute into the second half, but his bid was turned aside by a diving Chyzowych.
  • Two minutes later Lucas had a chance swept off the goal line by a Hobart defender.
  • RIT's biggest save of the game came in the 73rd minute. Chyzowych blasted a kick 60 yards over the Tiger's back line. Junior Steven Pickering, who was fresh off the bench, beat his defender to run onto the end of the pass. He took a couple of steps into the top of the 18-yard box and fired a shot that was turned aside by a hard-charging Trapp.
  • In the 84th minute, Chyzowych was awarded a red card. Hudson came on to face an RIT penalty kick. Idriss Diallo fired the attempt off of the crossbar. The rebound fell to Roman Mironenko who blasted the shot over the crossbar.
  • Hobart had one last chance to tie the game in the closing seconds, but first-year Brady Leitner's shot was blocked.
 
CLASS OF 2025
Hobart's class of 2025 finish their careers with an overall record of 33-24-15. Nick Kasper, Griffin Patterson, Mano Veldt, Pierson Rubincam, Brendan Haggerty, Connor Koschineg, Luke Ryan and Frederick Madsen won one Liberty League title and made an NCAA appearance in 2023.
