The top-ranked Hobart hockey team hits the road for the first time this season when it travels to Rutland, Vermont, to begin New England Hockey Conference play. The Statesmen will take on Vermont State University Castleton this weekend, Nov. 8-9. The series kicks off Friday, Nov. 8, at 7 p.m. Saturday's game will start at 4 p.m.
 
The Statesmen opened the season with a pair of wins. On Friday, Hobart defeated Oswego 5-2. Senior Luke Aquaro scored twice. Junior Damon Beaver made 31 saves. The following afternoon, the Statesmen scored four goals in the third period as they shut out Potsdam 6-0. Junior Tanner Daniels and first-year Ryan Remick each scored twice. Junior Mavrick Goyer stopped 10 shots for his ninth career shutout.
 
The Spartans are 0-1-1 to start the year. Castleton lost to then No. 9 Plattsburgh 6-3 to open the season. Luke Chakrabarti had two assists. The next day, Castleton tied Keene State 1-1.
