#11 Herons welcome Brewers for Liberty League Semifinal

The 11th-ranked William Smith soccer team will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 8, when it welcomes Vassar to Cozzens Field. The Liberty League Tournament semifinal is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m.
 
The Herons, who are 11-3-3 overall, are the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament. William Smith went 6-1-2 in league play and earned a bye with a 4-1 win over St. Lawrence to close out the regular season.
 
Vassar is the No. 3 seed. The Brewers are 11-2-5 overall after coming from behind to beat sixth-seeded Clarkson 2-1 on Tuesday in the first round of the Liberty League Tournament.

ABOUT THE HERONS
  • William Smith enters the game on a five-match winning streak and is unbeaten over its last seven (6-0-1).
  • Junior Ruth Hotaling leads the Herons with nine assists and 17 points. She also leads the Liberty League in assists.
  • Senior Lindsay Ringbloom has a team-high six goals.
  • Graduate student Kirsten Nelson has played the majority of the minutes in goal for the Herons. She has a 0.73 GAA and a .778 save percentage.
 
ABOUT THE BREWERS
  • Vassar is also unbeaten in its last seven games (4-0-3).
  • Alice Crowley leads the Brewers and is second in the conference with 12 goals and 27 points.
  • Noelle Namba leads the team with five assists.
  • Laura Shea has the edge in minutes played in goal for the Brewers. She is 6-0-4 with a 0.53 GAA and a .872 save percentage.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Friday will be the 30th meeting between the Herons and the Brewers.
  • William Smith leads the all-time series 24-1-4, including 13-1-3 record in Geneva.
  • The teams have played to three straight scoreless draws.
  • The teams last met in the conference tournament in 2019 in the 2019 championship match with William Smith prevailing 1-0 to claim the conference title.
