RUTLAND, Vt.—Hobart scored a pair of goals in the second period as it defeated Vermont State University Castleton 3-1 in a New England Hockey Conference contest at Spartan Arena this evening. With the win, the Statesmen are now 3-0-0 overall this season and 1-0-0 in league play.
Senior
Matthew Iasenza added a goal and an assist to finish with a multi-point game. Junior
Damon Beaver played all 60 minutes in goal and made 26 saves.
Josh Ward started in goal for Castleton (0-2-1, 0-1-0). He made 33 saves.
STREAKING
- Hobart extended its winning streak to 17 games.
- The Statesmen are unbeaten in their last 28 games (27-0-1).
SCORING SUMMARY
- Belov opened the scoring at the 2:53 mark of the second period. He jumped on a loose puck in the slot and fired a shot past Ward. His first goal of the season was unassisted.
- Belov made it a 2-0 game just past the midway point of regulation. He redirected a Dominic Schimizzi shot past Ward. Iasenza picked up the secondary helper on the goal.
- Iasenza picked up a goal of his own at the 9:42 mark of the third period. He picked up a rebound along the goal line and flipped the puck over Ward. His second goal of the season was assisted by sophomore Chris Duclair and first-year Tamas Toth.
- Ninety seconds later, the Spartans broke up the shutout bid. Jackson Edwards fired a shot past Beaver for his first goal of the year. Andrew Stefura and Aiden Robson had assists on the goal.
