GENEVA, N.Y.—The 11th-ranked William Smith soccer team scored a goal in each half as it knocked off Vassar 2-0 in a Liberty League semifinal on Cozzens Field this afternoon. With their sixth straight victory, the Herons are now 12-3-3 on the season.

Kirsten Nelson played all 90 minutes in goal and made six saves as she picked up her eighth shutout of the year.
Laura Shea played all 90 minutes in goal for Vassar (11-3-5). She made five saves.

- William Smith opened the scoring in the seventh minute when van der Putt notched her third goal of the season. She redirected a pass from senior Marissa Mastracco into the back of the net. Graduate student Ava Ruppersberger also had an assist on the goal after crossing the ball from the left wing into the 18-yard box.
- The Herons doubled their lead in the 69th minute. Junior Ruth Hotaling buried a penalty kick opportunity.

- Vassar nearly tied the game in the 20th minute. Cecelia Wagner blasted a shot that was smothered by the goalie.
- In the 32nd minute, van der Putt nearly added a second goal but her shot was turned by a diving stop by Shea.

- In the 75th minute, Lucy Hart fired a shot from the top of the 18-yeard box that was punched over the crossbar by Nelson, preserving the shutout.
- Nelson had one more save on a shot from Hart in the 81st minute.
