Hobart junior punter
Vicente Lyon was named to the 2024 Associated Press Division III All-America first team. He is the 15th Statesman to be named to the AP All-America teams and just the second to earn first team honors, joining linebacker Emmett Forde '22 (2021).
Â
Lyon ranked fourth in the nation this season in punting average with a Hobart season record 43.6 yards per punt. Ten of his 38 punts this year pinned the opposition inside its own 20. Lyon had 10 punts that traveled 50 or more yards this season, including a Hobart record 86-yarder in a win over Ithaca. That punt is the longest in NCAA football this year.
Â
Highly decorated, Lyon was named the Liberty League Special Teams Performer of the Week three times this year. He also earned a spot on the D3football.com Team of the Week three times. Lyon is just the second Statesmen to be named to the Team of the Week three times in the same season, joining defensive lineman Chris Purtell '05 (2004).
Â
Lyon, who made a successful return from a leg injury that robbed him of his sophomore season, garnered first team All-Liberty League as well as D3football.com first team All-Region honors.
Â
Lyon and the Statesmen went 9-2 this season, winning the Liberty League with a perfect 6-0 record. Hobart earned its 11th NCAA playoff bid, facing No. 6 Susquehanna in the second round. After a slow start, the Statesmen rallied but ultimately fell to the River Hawks 42-35.
