Statesmen split matches on Day 1 at Liberty League Championship

CANTON, N.Y.—The Hobart squash team split its matches on the opening day of the 2024 Liberty League Men's Squash Championships held at St. Lawrence today. The Statesmen defeated Bard 9-0 and then were edged by the hosts 5-4 in the semifinals.
 
Hobart is now 7-9 overall on the season and will progress to the third-place match were it will take on Dennison tomorrow morning at 10 a.m.  
 
FOR THE STATESMEN
  • Dhirren Rajarathinam and Javier De La Vega were 2-0 on the day. Rajarathinam had two 3-0 sweeps.
  •  Hobart earned 12 of their 13 points in 3-0 sweeps in the matches with St. Lawrence and Bard.
 
AGAINST THE RAPTORS
  • Hobart, which was the second seed, against seventh-seeded Bard. Hobart did not loose a single game in the match.
  • In the No. 1 spot, Hussein Labib beat Artemy Mukhin, 11-3, 11-3, 11-9. It was Labib's sixth win on the year.
  • Rajarathinam bested Luca Heidelberg, for his ninth straight win. Rajarathinam lost only four points.
  • De La Vega bested Will Egan, 11-1, 11-3, 11-3.
  • Roberto Vega cruised past Ali Mounim Rajabi, 11-3, 11-2, 11-2.
  • First-year Marwan Hesham Ali rolled to an 11-6, 11-4, 11-7 victory in the fifth spot.
  • Matthew Aldana swept Sachin Wijay, 11-1, 11-4, 11-2.
  • Angel Ripolles knocked off Jacob Nathan, 11-3, 11-3, 11-2.
  • Sayf Elhawary lost only three points as he beat Cody Coon, 11-1, 11-1, 11-1.
  • Raji Davenport won 11-3, 11-3 , 11-2 at No. 9.
 
AGAINST THE SAINTS
  • Rajarathinam won his team-leading 14th match of the year, besting St. Lawrence's Alexander Scott, 11-7, 11-6, 11-5. Rajarathinam has won 10-straight matches and is 14-1 on the season
  • In the No. 3 spot, Omar Kiwan beat Harrison Callaway, 12-10, 11-1, 11-4. Kiwan is 10-5 this season with a 6-1 mark in the No. 3 spot.
  • Joseph Raskin Lantos bested Harry Roson, 11-9, 11-7,11-5, at No. 4. It was Raskin Lantos' fourth win of the season.
  • In the closest match of the day, De La Vega edged Oliver Bikhazi-Green, 12-10, 8-11, 11-13, 11-8, 11-7. De La Vega is now 8-8 on the year.
