Hobart to cap regular season at home against Vassar, Union

GENEVA, N.Y.—The Hobart basketball team will wrap up the regular season with a pair of home games this weekend. The Statesmen will host Vassar at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16 and Union at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17.
 
Both games can be seen live on HWS All-Access and will be broadcast live on WHWS-FM (105.7).
 
Saturday will also mark Senior Day for the Statesmen. Prior to the start of the contest, Hobart will honor the Class of 2024: forward Ryan Lucey, guards Matt Brand and Isaiah Washington and student manager for analytics Fischer Birnbach.
 
PLAYOFF PICTURE
  • All three teams enter the final weekend in the Liberty League playoff hunt.
  • The Statesmen have clinched a spot in the six-team field. They are tied with St. Lawrence for second place in the standings, a game behind RPI.
  • The Garnet Chargers are in a three-way tie for fourth place with Bard and RIT.
  • The Brewers are tied for seventh place, a game out of the final playoff spot.
 
FIVE THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT HOBART
  • The Statesmen lead the Liberty League in overall winning percentage (.783), rebounding margin (+5.8), free throw attempts per game (20.6) and free throws made per game (15.0).
  • Hobart is at its best in the friendly confines of Bristol Gym. The Statesmen are outscoring opponents by 10.3 points per game and outrebounding them by 10.1 rebounds per game on their home court. Hobart has been outscored in road and neutral site games (-1.1 ppg) and has just a +2.5 rebounding margin.
  • Offensively, Hobart has five players averaging 10 or more points per game led by junior guard Pat Healy's 12.5 ppg.
  • On the glass, junior Carter Meshanic is collecting a team-high 7.2 rebounds per game.
  • Junior Aidan Rodgers has a team-leading 77 assists and is the only qualifying player in the Liberty League with an assist-to-turnover over 2.0 (2.1). He also paces the conference in free throw percentage (.862).
 
SCOUTING THE BREWERS
  • Vassar will arrive in Geneva with a 9-14 overall record and a 7-9 mark in league play. The Brewers are looking to bounce back from a 63-58 loss to RPI last Saturday.
  • Vassar averages 67.3 ppg and gives up 70.8 ppg. The Brewers are fifth in the league in rebounding margin at +0.5.
  • First-year guard Shea Fitzgerald leads the team, producing 14.3 ppg, 3.3 rpg, 2.4 apg, and 1.3 spg.
  • On Dec. 2, Hobart defeated the Brewers 69-58 in Poughkeepsie to improve to 41-8 all-time against Vassar. The Statesmen are 24-1 against the Brewers in Bristol Gym.
 
SCOUTING THE GARNET CHARGERS
  • Union will begin the weekend with a 13-9 overall record and an 8-8 mark in the conference. The Garnet Chargers will visit RIT on Friday before heading to Geneva.
  • Union is averaging 74.6 ppg and yielding 72.7 ppg. The Garnet Chargers are fourth in the league in rebounding margin (+1.5).
  • Union leads the Liberty League in free throw percentage (.751), rebounds per game (38.59) and defensive rebounds per game (29.55).
  • First-year guard Tanner Tedesco powers the Garnet Chargers. He is averaging 11.1 ppg, 3.6 rpg, and a league best 4.6 apg.
  • On Dec. 1, Hobart topped Union 81-66 in Schenectady. The Garnet Chargers lead the all-time series with the Statesmen 65-53, but Hobart holds a 30-25 edge in Bristol Gym.
