GENEVA, N.Y. – The No. 33 Hobart College tennis team opened its spring season at home against No. 10 Denison University this afternoon in Bristol Field House. The Statesmen fell to the Big Red 7-2.
In the No. 1 spot, doubles partners senior Sean Pesin and sophomore Nick Fischer beat the eighth ranked doubles team in the nation, Ethan Green and Kael Shah, 8-6 to secure a point for the Statesmen.
In the No. 2 spot, junior Nick Grosso and sophomore Jose Martinez Barelles fell 8-4 to Denison's Colin Gramley and Zach Portnoy. Juniors Hyat Oyer and Troy Steiner lost 8-6 in the No. 3 spot as the Big Red grabbed an early 2-1 advantage over the Statesmen.
In singles action, first-year Achilleas Kousaridis defeated Ryan Patrick 6-1, 0-6, 6-3 at the No. 5 spot to grab Hobart its lone point in singles play. Pesin posted a close game in the No. 1 spot, eventually falling 7-6 (9-7), 6-3 to No. 17 ranked Kael Shah.
