The Hobart and William Smtih sailing team was back on the water this weekend, March 9-10, competing in two regattas. HWS was in St. Mary's City and Annapolis, Maryland. The coed team competed at the St. Mary's Team Race while the Herons participated in the Jen Harris Women's Team Race at Navy.

ST. MARY'S TEAM RACE
  • In St. Mary's City, HWS finished the weekend with a 5-11 overall record, earning a seventh place finish.
  • On Saturday, sailors were met with wet but good racing conditions, with an easterly wind blowing through.
  • Sunday brought sunny, dry, and ideal racing conditions, allowing the second-round robin to be completed. By the end of the day, a strong breeze came through, with winds over 20 knots pushing from the northwest.
  • HWS notched two wins in round one, taking down Cornell and SUNY Maritime with.
  • With only the top six teams advancing to the championship third round, Hobart and William Smith made a strong round two push to try and earn a spot, defeating Cornell, St. Mary's, and SUNY Maritime.
  • Will Murray, Juan Carlos Lacerda Jones, and Jeffrey Klempen served skippers. Frances Depke, Rachel Duggan, Anna McBride, Elijah Goldman, and Robert Breslin competed as crew.

JEN HARRIS WOMEN'S TEAM RACE
  • In Annapolis, the Herons would finish the weekend tied for 11th but finished 12th because of their head-to-head loss with George Washington.
  • On Saturday, sailors were initially met with a calm 10-15 knot easterly breeze at the start of races. As the day progressed the wind remained but harsh winds began pouring down on the sailors. Despite the heavy rain, a full round robin was finished.
  • Despite harsh afternoon forecasts, Sunday's races began with dry and reasonable conditions. After the first few flights conditions quickly turned as winds over 30 knots rolled through, and races were abandoned before any round robin could be completed.
  • William Smith picked up its win over the University of South Florida.
  • Heather Kerns, Elizabeth Starck, and Brook Wood served as skippers and Stella Kim, Ella Donaldson, and Laura Therien competed as crew.
