ORLANDO, Fla.– The No. 34 ranked Hobart tennis earned its first victory of the season this afternoon as the Statesmen defeated Hamilton College 5-4 to open its spring break trip to Florida. Hobart moves to 1-3 on the season while the Continentals fall to 2-3 overall.
The Statesmen earned two of three available doubles points against the Continentals. Senior
Sean Pesin and sophomore
Nick Fischer grabbed their second victory of the season from the No. 1 position, defeating Anson Anderson and Tarun Korwar in a thrilling 8-7 (7-4) match. Juniors
Hyat Oyer and
Troy Steiner grabbed their first doubles win of the season as they defeated Connor Griff and Gianni Esposito 8-3 in the No. 2 spot.
Hobart found points from the No. 4, No. 5, and No. 6 singles spots against Hamilton. In the No. 5 spot, senior
Winter Fagerberg had an impressive showing, defeating Neal Gupta 6-0, 6-1, for his first dual match win of the season. Sophomore
Nick Grosso moves to 3-2 in dual matches this season as he defeated Charlie Sternberg 6-4, 6-1 in the No. 6 spot.
First-year
Achilleas Kousaridis clinched the victory for the Statesmen with a win in the No. 4 spot to remain undefeated in dual matches this season. Kousaridis defeated Gianni Esposito 6-0, 6-4, to move to 3-0 in singles play.
Pesin and Oyer fell in close matches this afternoon, both in tiebreaker situations. Pesin fell to Griff in the No. 1 position, 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 7-10, while Oyer fell to Korwar in the No. 3 spot, 4-6, 7-6 (7-1), 7-10.
