Herons head to Pittsburgh for AMCC Championship

3/21/2024 11:14:00 AM

William Smith is headed to Pittsburgh this weekend to compete in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Women's Bowling Championship March 22-24. The Herons finished the regular season as co-champions with Saint Vincent and enter the tournament as the No. 2 seed.

In its second varsity season, William Smith went 18-2 in AMCC competition, earning a first round bye. The Herons' first match at Pines Plaza Lanes will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday, March 22 against the winner of third-seeded Alvernia and sixth-seeded Pitt-Bradford.

The AMCC Championship will use mega match format, a best of three format which includes a five-person team match, Baker total pinfall and, if the teams are tied, a best-of-seven Baker match to determine a winner. Friday morning's first round matches are single elimination. From the second round on, the tournament is double elimination.

Regardless of Friday afternoon's outcome, William Smith will play a second match Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. The AMCC Championship match is set for 9:30 a.m. Sunday.

The Herons are led by junior Michaela Morgan, first-year Colleen Jump and the team's lone senior Amber Pidlypchak. Morgan is averaging a team-leading 18.73 pins per frame with Jump a close second at 18.45. Pidlypchak is third at 17.45.

Overall, William Smith boasts a record of 47-21 (.691) in its sophomore season, a dramatic turnaround from a 4-28 (.125) inaugural campaign.
