The Hobart and William Smith sailing team was on the water for two regattas this past weekend, March 23-24. HWS was in Norfolk, Virginia for the Szambecki Team Race and William Smith sailors were in St. Mary's City, Maryland for the Seahawk Women's Team Race. HWS finished eighth in Norfolk and William Smith placed sixth.
Seahawk Women's Team Race
- In St. Mary's City races kicked off as scheduled, but while the first boats were on the water swirling winds picked up and the races were quickly abandoned. The weather was miserable on Saturday, but it led to good racing with 54 races being contested. On Sunday, it was windy cold and shifty, making for fun team racing. A double round robin and final four was contested on the weekend.
- William Smith finished 7-11, earning them sixth place. In the first round robin they posted wins over Dartmouth, Fordham, Jacksonville and Navy. In the second round robin, the Herons beat Dartmouth, the Rams, the Dolphins and St. Mary's.
- Heather Kerns, Elizabeth Starck, and Brook Wood competed as skippers, while Stella Kim, Ella Donaldson, Laura Therien, and Maya Mahoney sailed as crew.

Szambecki Open Team Race
- In Norfolk, sailors were met with varying gusts of wind on Saturda ranging from 8-25 knots, but the committee was able to complete the majority of the first two round robins.
- Sunday brought much more difficult conditions, and races had to be held off untill the early afternoon due to unsafe wind and wave conditions. Once the conditions settled down, sailors were able to complete the final 18 races of the second-round robin by 3 p.m.
- HWS finished 5-11 on the weekend. In the first round robin, HWS posted wins over George Washington, Miami and Old Dominion. In the second round robin they posted wins over George Washington and the College of Charleston.
- Will Murray, Jeffrey Klempen, and Juan Carlos Lacerda Jones competed as skippers, while Elijah Goldman, Anna McBride, Robert Breslin, Rachel Duggan, Frances Depke, and Owen Carolan sailed as crew.

Back at Home
The Herons will be back in the water next weekend, March 30-31, as they will host the Middle Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association Women's Dinghy Championships. Racing will begin at 10 a.m. on Seneca Lake.
