CANTON, N.Y.– The William Smith tennis team concluded its season as it fell 7-2 to St. Lawrence this afternoon in a Liberty League matchup at Sammis Tennis Courts. The Herons finish their 2023-24 campaign with a 7-13 overall record and a 1-7 record in conference play. The Saints moved to 12-7 overall, with a 5-3 mark in the Liberty League.

William Smith put up a fight in doubles play, winning one of three matches against St. Lawrence and sending one to a tiebreaker. Sophomores Marin Montagne and Maddy Buck grabbed the Herons' lone win in doubles play as they defeated Elena Styliades and Meredith Macey 8-6 in the No. 3 spot. The duo concludes their season with a 9-1 record in dual match play and a six-match win streak.

Sophomore Haley Levine and junior Natalie Haythorn forced a tiebreaker in the No. 1 spot against Molly Jespersen and Angelica Aksdal-Jansen, but ultimately fell 8-7 (7-2). The duo finished the season with a 2-3 mark in doubles play.

The Saints continued their momentum into singles play, winning five of six matches against the Herons. Montagne won the lone singles point of the day for William Smith for her second win of the day. She defeated Styliades 6-3, 3-6, 10-5 in the No. 5 spot to conclude the season with a 9-6 record in dual matches.
