4/29/2024 2:21:00 PM

The Hobart and William Smith sailing team competed in their final regular season regatta this past weekend, April 27-28. The Sailing team finished eighth out of the field of 18 at the Admiral's Cup in Kings Point, New York, finishing the weekend with 130 points between the two divisions in the team regatta.

ADMIRAL's CUP
  • On Saturday sailors began the regatta with southerly breeze of 10 knots that shifted throughout the day. With temperatures in the mid-50's, nine races were completed in each division before the competition had to be called at 4:00 p.m.
  • Sunday brought ideal conditions for anything but sailing, as the beautiful weather brought everything except the wind needed for races. All races were postponed as competitors waited out in hope for a breeze to pick up, but by 12:30 p.m. all races were abandoned before any could start.
  • A tightly contested regatta, spots five through eight were seperated by five points.
  • In the A Division, Nick Sessions served as the skipper with Valyn Mogensen competing as crew. Their boat finished with 64 points, fifth best in the division. They had seven top-10 finishes and won the seventh race.
  • In B Division, HWS was seventh with 66 points. Thomas Walker competed as skipper with Reilly Roedel and Maya Mahoney competing as crew. They were in the top 10 in all but two races, finishing firstin the fourth race.
