Garnet Chargers clip Herons 6-3

SCHENECTADY, N.Y.– The William Smith tennis team fell to No. 50 Union 6-3 this afternoon in a Liberty League contest at the Sportime Tennis Club. The Herons fall to 4-9 overall with a 0-4 mark in conference play, while the Garnet Chargers move to 8-3 overall and 3-0 in the Liberty League.
 
William Smith jumped out to a 2-1 lead over Union after doubles play. Junior Isabelle Goings-Perrot and sophomore Haley Levine defeated Chara Meidani and Grace Nicol 8-6 in the No. 1 spot for their fourth dual match win of the season. Sophomores Marin Montagne and Maddy Buck moved to 4-1 on the season after defeating Claire Langille and Skylar Semon 8-4 in the No. 3 spot.
 
Juniors Natalie Haythorn and Julia Pida fell in a thrilling match in the No. 2 spot. The duo fell to Kennedy Alexis and Luisa Arizpe Sierra 8-6 and fall to 4-4 in dual matches this season.
 
The Garnet Chargers stormed back in singles action, winning five of six matches against the Herons. Montagne earned William Smith's lone singles win of the afternoon to move to 7-3 on the season. She earned her second win of the day in the No. 5 spot, defeating Gabriella Gatto 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
 
Levine fell in a thrilling matchup in the No. 1 spot this afternoon, falling to Nicol 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 2-6. Haythorn fought back in a back-and-forth matchup against Arizpe Sierra, ultimately falling 2-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-7 (1-7) in the No. 4 spot.

William Smith will be back in action on Saturday, April 13, when it welcomes NYU and Bard to Geneva for back-to-back matches. Nonconference action against the Violets is set for 10 a.m., and will be followed by a conference matchup with the Raptors at 5 p.m.
