NORFOLK, Va.-The Hobart and William Smith sailing team was in action this weekend, April 6-7, competing for the Prosser Trophy. HWS finished sixth overall in the Middle Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association Team Race Championship.
PROSSER TROPHY
- Saturday morning began with heavy gusts of wind, keeping sailors off the water briefly. Races began once gusts dropped below 30 knots, and 43 races were sailed.
- Sunday brought light winds, allowing for the second round robin to be completed but a thrid round got cut short due to the wind becoming unstable.
- HWS went 4-10 on the weekend, positing wins over Fordham (twice), Cornell, and Penn.
- Will Murray, Jeffrey Klempen, and Juan Carlos Lacerda Jones served as skippers for the races, and Elijah Goldman, Frances Depke, Anna McBride, Robert Breslin, Laura Therien, and Rachel Duggan competed as crew.
UP NEXT
The sailing team will be back in the water next weekend April 13-14, competing in three regattas. The Herons will go to St. Mary's City, Maryland, for the MAISA Womens Team Race Championship. HWS will also be in Throggs Neck, New York for the Truxtun Umsted, as well as in Medford, Massachusetts, for the Owen Trophy.
