The William Smith field hockey team will continue its six-game homestand as it hosts the annual William Smith Classic this weekend. Saturday's contests will see the Herons take on Kean University at 10:30 a.m., followed by St. Lawrence taking on Lebanon Valley at 2 p.m. Sunday's action will begin with the Saints taking on the Cougars at 10:30 a.m., followed by the Herons taking on the Flying Dutchmen at 2 p.m.
Fans who can't make it to McCooey Field this weekend can follow all the action with HWS All-Access Video and Live Stats. The William Smith games will be broadcast on WHWS-FM (105.7 in Geneva).
ABOUT THE HERONS:
- William Smith enters the weekend with a 2-2 overall record and is coming off a 6-1 nonconference win over Nazareth on Tuesday.
- First-year defender Caroline Kogut leads the team with five points on two goals and one assist. Kogut was named the Liberty League Rookie of the Week after a strong opening weekend that saw her score her first career goal.Â
- Junior Anneliese Oetsen follows closely behind with four points on two goals. Oetsen scored both of her goals in the win over the Golden Flyers.Â
- Senior Hannah Huston earned a spot on the Liberty League Weekly Honor Roll after scoring her first goal of the season against SUNY Geneseo last week.
- First-year Baker Jeremiah has the edge in goalie minutes played for the Herons. She is 2-2 this season with a 1.87 goals against average and a .636 save percentage.
ABOUT THE COUGARS:
- Kean brings a 1-3 record into Saturday's game and is coming off a 3-1 win over Misericordia on Tuesday. Â
- Shannon Conroy and Adrianna Duda share the team lead with four points on two goals each.
- Daniella Maresca has played all 245 minutes in goal for the Cougars. She is 1-3 with a 2.70 GAA and a .744 save percentage.Â
ABOUT THE FLYING DUTCHMEN:
- Lebanon Valley enters the weekend with a 3-0 overall record and is coming off a 1-0 win over Penn State Harrisburg on Wednesday.Â
- Sorrel Long leads the team with nine points on four goals and one assist. Claire Weidenhammer follows closely behind with eight points on four goals.
- Ella Weidenhammer leads the Flying Dutchmen in goal, playing 156 minutes this season and has earned a 0.39 GAA and a .929 save percentage.
SERIES SNAPSHOT:
- Saturday's game will be the second meeting between the Herons and the Cougars. Kean defeated William Smith 3-1 in last year's William Smith Classic.
