Herons welcome Falcons for non-conference clash

The William Smith soccer team returns to Cozzens Field this Saturday, Sept. 14, when it hosts Messiah in a non-conference clash. Kickoff is scheduled for 11 a.m.
 
The Herons are 1-2-1 overall. William Smith is coming off a 1-1 tie with Denison in Pittsburgh on Sunday.
 
The Falcons are 1-0-3 after a 2-0 win over McDaniel on Wednesday night. It snapped a string of three straight ties to open the season.  
 
Fans who cannot make it to Cozzens Field can follow all the action online with HWS All-Access Video and Live Stats. The game will also be broadcast on WHWS-FM (105.7 in Geneva).
 
ABOUT THE HERONS
  • Senior Marjorie Plants has started all four games and leads the Herons with three goals and six points.
  • Junior Ruth Hotaling has three assists.
  • Kirsten Nelson has played the majority the minutes in goal for Herons.
 
ABOUT THE FALCONS
  • Kristina Akselsen leads Messiah with three points on a goal and an assist.
  • Akselsen is one of six Falcons' with a goal this season.
  • Ava Wert has played the entirety in net. She has a 1.00 GAA and a .667 save percentage.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Saturday will be the 17th meeting between the Herons and the Falcons.
  • Messiah leads the all-time series 7-6-3, but William Smith leads in Geneva 3-1-2.
  • In 2023, the Herons defeated the Falcons 3-1. Katrine Berg '24  had a hand in all three goals in the victory, recording a goal and two assists. Nelson played all 90 minutes in goal and made six saves.
