Herons host Bullets, Cardinals in Heron Tri-Match Saturday

The William Smith volleyball team will play two non-conference matches at home this weekend during the Heron Tri-Match. The Herons will welcome Gettysburg and St. John Fisher Saturday, Sept. 14 to Bristol Gymnasium.

THE SCHEDULE:

  • William Smith vs Gettysburg, 11 a.m.
  • Gettysburg vs St. John Fisher, 2 p.m.
  • William Smith vs St. John Fisher, 5 p.m.

ABOUT THE HERONS:

  • William Smith enters the weekend with a 4-2 record after going 1-2 last weekend against the University of Chicago, No. 16 Millikin, and Mount St. Joseph. The Herons fell to the Maroons 3-1 and the Big Blue 3-0 before defeating the Lions 3-2. 
  • Junior Malya Sayre paces the Herons with 84 kills and leads the Liberty League in kills per set (4.19) and points per set (4.98). She ranks 21st in the country in kills per set and 16th in the nation in points per set. 
  • First-year setter Delainy Williams leads the team in assists, recording 228 this season. She averages 10.86 per set, which is leading the conference and ranks ninth in the country. Williams has been named the conference's rookie of the week in back-to-back weeks to open the season. 
  • William Smith has two players ranked top 10 in the conference in hitting percentage. Junior Jaylynn McCarthy sits fourth in the conference (.312) while classmate Hope Von Dohlen ranks 10th (.248).
  • First-year Kali Vanderhoof leads the team in digs with 84. Vanderhoof currently sits fourth in the league in digs per set (4.00)
  • First-year Arielle Newsome has a team-leading 19 blocks (.90/set), ranking fourth in the conference. 
  • As a team the Herons rank among the nation's best in several categories. William Smith ranks 19th nationally in assists per set (12.62) and 22nd in kills per set (13.52). 

ABOUT THE BULLETS:

  • Gettysburg enters the weekend at 8-0 after sweeping Penn State Harrisburg on Wednesday and are receiving votes in this week's AVCA national poll. 
  • Alycen Radolovic leads the Bullets with 74 kills, averaging 2.84 per set. She is followed by Erin Gonzalez with 2.32 kills per set. 
  • Kendall Erpenbeck leads the team with 112 assists this season, averaging 5.60 per set. She is followed by Sophie Nasir with 5.05 assists per set. 
  • Defensively, the Bullets are led by Kierra Fox who averages 3.11 digs per set. Mary Huegel leads the team with 1.19 blocks per set.
  • This will be the Herons' second matchup against the Bullets in program history. In their first meeting, Gettysburg beat William Smith 3-1 in Salisbury, Maryland, in 2023.

ABOUT THE CARDINALS:

  • St. John Fisher enters the weekend 4-3 after defeating the University of Rochester 3-1 and Middlebury 3-2 before falling 3-0 to No. 19 Ithaca last weekend.
  • Kaylene Noble leads the Cardinals with 77 kills this season, averaging 2.85 per set. She is followed by Lydia Fraser averaging 2.30 kills per set. 
  • Reilly Morrow has a team-leading 222 assists, averaging 8.22 assists per set. 
  • Defensively, Kiera Hartpence leads SJFU with 3.56 digs per set, while Madalyn Bouton leads the Cardinals at the net with 0.62 blocks per set. 
  • Last season, St. John Fisher defeated William Smith 3-1 in Geneva.
