#1 Hobart concludes road trip with SUNYAC foes

The top-ranked Hobart hockey team concludes its five-game road trip this weekend, Jan. 17-18, with a pair of non-conference matchups. On Friday, the Statesmen will take on Buffalo State at 7 p.m. Saturday Hobart will travel to Fredonia at 4 p.m.
 
Hobart is coming off a sweep of Skidmore this past weekend. Both games ended with a final score of 5-3. Junior Tanner Daniels was named to the New England Hockey Conference's weekly honor roll finishing the weekend with a team-high four points on a goal and three assist.
 
The Bengals are coming off a weekend sweep of Chatham. They beat the Cougars 4-3 on Friday and 5-3 on Saturday.
 
The Blue Devils, who will be idle on Friday night, are looking to bounce back from a pair of losses this past weekend. Fredonia lost to Brockport 4-3 on Friday. The following night they lost to then No. 2 Geneseo 9-2.  
 
MEDIA COVERAGE  
ABOUT THE STATESMEN (13-0-0)
  • Daniels leads the Statesmen with nine goals and 17 points. He is 16th in the nation in goals per game (1.15) and 21st in points per game (1.31)
  • Sophomore Bauer Morrissey has a team-leading 10 assists.
  • Juniors Damon Beaver and Mavrick Goyer have split time in goal for the Statesmen. Beaver has a 1.15 GAA, a .956 save percentage and two shutouts. Goyer has a 1.17 GAA, a .940 save percentage and three shutouts.
 
NATIONAL NUMBERS
  • Hobart is first in the nation in scoring defense (1.15) and scoring margin (3.69).
  • The Statesmen are second in scoring offense (4.85), third in assists (110) and points (173) and seventh in penalty-killing percentage (.891).
  • Sophomore Chris Duclair is sixth in the nation in game-winning goals (3) and seventh in power-play goals (4).
 
ABOUT THE BENGALS (10-5-0)
  • Vadim Kiriakov leads Buffalo State with 13 assists and 19 points. He is 20th in the nation in assists per game (0.87).
  • Don Powell has a team-high seven goals this season.
  • Marcus Cumberworth has played the majority of the minutes in goal. He is 7-4-0 with a 2.31 GAA and a .922 save percentage. 
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Friday will be the 40th meeting between the Statesmen and the Bengals.
  • Hobart leads the all-time series 27-8-4, including a mark of 8-5-1 in Buffalo.
  • Last year, the Statesmen shut out the Bengals 4-0. Matthieu Wuth '24 and Artem Buzoverya '24 had a goal and an assist each in the victory. Damon Beaver stopped all 15 shots he faced as he earned the shutout.
 
ABOUT THE BLUE DEVILS (5-10-0)
  • Ryan Bailey leads Fredonia with eight assists and 14 points.
  • Antonie St. Onge has a team-leading seven goals and is second with 13 points.
  • Charles-Anthony Barbeau has the edge in minutes played in goal for the Blue Devils. He is 2-7-0 with a 3.36 GAA and a .906 save percentage.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • Saturday will be the 25th meeting between the Statesmen and the Blue Devils.
  • Fredonia leads the all-time series 12-9-3, including an 8-1-0 record in Fredonia.
  • Last year, the Statesmen defeated the Blue Devils 3-1. Three different players scored for Hobart as the Statesmen rallied for the victory.
