GENEVA, N.Y.—Senior forward
Kayla Ketchabaw scored 25 seconds into overtime as the William Smith hockey team rallied for a 2-1 victory over Vermont State University Castleton in a New England Hockey Conference contest at The Cooler this evening.
Tonight's victory was the Herons' first in overtime since Feb. 19, 2022, when they beat the University of Southern Maine in the second overtime of a NEHC quarterfinal contest.
Sophomore
Tara Valas led the way for the Herons, recording a pair of assists. First-year
Bella Hacker had the game-tying goals. Senior
Erin Murray played all but a minute in goal, recording 30 saves.
Madeleine Corrigan scored for the Spartans. Victoria Bakopanos started in goal and made 21 saves for Castleton.

- William Smith improves to 8-9-1 overall with an 8-3-0 mark in NEHC play.
- The Spartans are 6-10-1 overall with a 2-4-1 mark in conference play.
- Both teams earned one point in the conference standings, finishing regulation tied. The Herons earn the extra point with the win.

SCORING SUMMARY
- Castleton opened the scoring with 25 seconds remaining in the first period. Corrigan wristed a shot off of the right goalpost. She collected her own rebound and flipped the shot over Murray for her first goal of the season.
- The Herons used some late-game dramatics to pull out the victory. William Smith tied the game with 25 seconds remaining in regulation. With Murray pulled in favor of an extra attacker, Hacker won a faceoff back to Valas and then skated toward the slot. Valas fired a shot on goal from the point that Hacker redirected past Bakopanos for her fourth goal of the season.
- Ketchabaw won the game 25 seconds into the overtime period. She wristed a shot from a tight angle over the goalie's blocker into the upper right corner of the cage. Her fifth goal of the year was assisted by graduate student Mackenzie O'Neil and Valas.
