#1 Hobart visits Skidmore this weekend

The top-ranked Hobart hockey team continues its road trip this weekend, Jan. 10-11, in Saratoga Springs, New York. The Statesmen will take on New England Hockey Conference rival Skidmore for a two-game series at the Saratoga City Rink. Friday's game is set to begin at 7 p.m. with Saturday's game scheduled for a 4 p.m. start.
 
Hobart enters the weekend 11-0-0 overall this season. The Statesmen shut out Manhattanville 3-0 to open 2025. Graduate student Austin Mourar had a goal and an assist in the win. Junior Damon Beaver stopped all 22 shots as he earned the shutout.
 
Skidmore is 7-6-0 overall. The Thoroughbreds opened 2025 in the Midwest splitting games with Saint John's and St. Olaf's.  Skidmore beat the Johnnies 2-1 before falling to the Oles 6-3.

ABOUT THE STATESMEN (11-0-0, 8-0-0 NEHC)
  • Hobart enters the second half of conference play in first place with 24 points.
  • Junior Tanner Daniels leads the Statesmen with eight goals and 13 points. He is tied for first in the nation in short-handed goals (2) and ranked 11th for goals per game (0.73) 
  • Sophomore Bauer Morrissey leads the team with nine assists.
  • Juniors Damon Beaver and Mavrick Goyer have split time in goal for the Statesmen. Beaver is 6-0-0 with a 0.84 GAA and a .968 save percentage. Goyer is 5-0-0 with a 0.80 GAA and a .955 save percentage. Beaver is first in the nation in save percentage and second in GA, while Goyer is first in GAA and second in save percentage.
 
NATIONAL NUMBERS
  • Hobart is first in the nation in winning percentage (1.000), scoring margin (+4.00), penalty killing percentage (.944), and scoring defense (0.82).
  • The Statesmen are third in the nation for scoring offense (4.82), and fifth in assists (90) and points (143).
 
 
ABOUT THE THOROUGHBREDS
  • Skidmore is in a three-way tie for second in the league standings with 15 points. The Thoroughbreds, Elmira and Babson are all nine points behind the Statesmen.
  • Danny Magnuson leads the Thoroughbreds with 12 assists and 14 points. He is 16th in the nation in assists per game (0.92).
  • Zach Lindewirth and Cooper Rice share the team lead with five goals each.
  • Joshua Seeley has played the majority of the minutes in goal. He is 5-3-0 with a 2.93 GAA and an .888 save percentage. Tommy Aitken started both games out in Minnesota. He is 2-1-0 with a 2.00 GAA and a  .932 save percentage.
 
SERIES HISTORY
  • This weekend will be the 27th and 28th meeting between the Statesmen and the Thoroughbreds.
  • Hobart leads the all-time series 21-4-1, including a mark of 8-1-1 in Saratoga Springs. 
  • The Statesmen have won six straight in the series, including all three last season.
