GENEVA, N.Y.—Three different Herons recorded double-digit kills as the William Smith volleyball team cruised to a 3-0 sweep of Rochester this evening in nonconference matchup in Bristol Gym. With the win, the Herons extend their win streak seven straight and improve to 13-1 on the season, while the Yellowjackets fall to 3-12 overall.
William Smith dominated the stat sheet against Rochester. The Herons put down 41 kills, hitting .405 as a team, while the Yellowjackets tallied 25 kills and a .057 hitting percentage. William Smith held a 7-3 edge in service aces as well as a 4-1 advantage in blocks. The Herons also combined for 39 digs as a team compared to the Yellowjackets' 33.
Senior outside
Malya Sayre led William Smith with a match-high 17 kills, hitting .412 through three sets. She added six digs, and two service aces in the sweep. Senior
Hope Von Dohlen added a season-high 11 kills (.588), two digs and a block, while Sophomore
Emily Fulton chipped in 10 kills (.588), six digs, four service aces and a block for the Herons.
Myla Nover-Estes led the Yellowjackets with six kills (.111) and two digs in the loss. Iliana Balaskas recorded a team-leading 16 assists for Rochester.
MATCH MOMENTS:
- The Herons came out firing in the opening set, combining for a match-high 15 kills (.519) as a team, while the Yellowjackets tallied a match-low four kills (-.077). William Smith went up 5-0 to open the set after a strong service run from Fulton and never looked back. The Herons closed out set one on top 25-8.
- Rochester responded well in the second set and combined for 12 kills (.133) as a team but were met by a strong Heron side that combined for 13 kills (.370). Three straight attack errors by the Yellowjackets would hand the Herons a 25-18 win in set two.
- William Smith closed out the sweep with another impressive performance in the third set, combining for 13 kills (.333) as a team. A Rochester service error closed out the third set with the Herons on top 25-14.
MATCH STATS:
- Sayre paced the Herons with 17 kills (.412), while Von Dohlen chipped in 11 (.588). Fulton added 10 kills (.588) in the win, while senior Jaylynn McCarthy added two out of the middle. First-year Makenzie Dvorznak tallied one kill (.500) off the bench in the win.
- Sophomore setter Delainy Williams tallied a match-high 33 assists in the sweep. She added two digs and a block for William Smith.
- The Herons combined for 39 digs as a team and were led by sophomore libero Kali Vanderhoof with 14. Senior Marin Montagne, Sayre and Fulton all chipped in six digs in the win.
- William Smith continued to impress from the service line and tallied seven aces in the win. Fulton led the way with four, while Sayre added two. Vanderhoof chipped in one service ace for the Herons.
- The Green and White also dominated at the net, combining for four total blocks as a team. McCarthy led the way with three, while Von Dohlen and sophomore Arielle Newsome chipped in one each.

William Smith will be back in action Saturday, Oct. 4, when it travels to New York, New York, for two nonconference matches. The Herons will take on NYU at 11 a.m., before wrapping up the weekend's action against Manhattanville at 1:30 in John A. Paulson Center.
