The William Smith field hockey team will be back in action this Tuesday, Oct. 14 at 7 p.m. as it hosts Houghton in a non-conference game on McCooey Field.
Fans who can't make it to McCooey Field Tuesday can follow all the action with HWS All-Access Video and Live Stats. The game will be broadcast on WHWS-FM (105.7 in Geneva).
ABOUT THE HERONS:
- The Herons are 6-7 this season and are coming off a 5-2 conference loss to Union Saturday.
- Graduate student Rebecca Mantione leads William Smith with 18 points on seven goals and four assists. Sophomore Caroline Kogut follows with 12 points on five goals and two assists, while classmate Madison Campisi adds eight points on four goals.
- Sophomore Hadley Harbert leads William Smith's defensive efforts with three defensive saves on the season. Junior Leah Griffith has chipped in two defensive saves, while Kogut and junior Elle Oberfield have added one each.
- Sophomore Baker Jeremiah and first-year Olivia Terranova have split the minutes in goal for the Herons this season. Jeremiah is 3-2 with a 3.05 goals against average and a .633 save percentage, while Terranova is 3-5 with a 2.20 GAA and a .717 save percentage.
ABOUT THE HIGHLANDERS:
- The Highlanders enter the non-conference matchup with an 8-3 overall record and are coming off an 8-0 win against Elmira on Saturday.
- Kylee Barshinger leads the team with 18 points on eight goals and two assists. Adria Hartzler follows with 16 points on seven goals and two assists, while Lilyana Good has added 15 points on seven goals and one assist.
- Katie Berghorn leads Houghton's defensive efforts with a team-leading two defensive saves this season.
- Annika Galen has played a majority of the minutes in goal for the Highlanders. Galen is 8-3 with a 1.29 GAA and a .764 save percentage.
SERIES HISTORY:
- Tuesday will be the 22nd meeting between the Herons and the Highlanders. William Smith holds a 19-2 advantage in the series, including a 10-1 edge in Geneva.
- Last season on Oct. 2, 2024, the Herons defeated the Highlanders 3-1 in Houghton, New York. Kogut, Griffith and sophomore Mia Batchelder each tallied a goal in the win.
