The William Smith field hockey team will be back in action Friday, Oct. 17, with a Liberty League showdown against Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Action between the Herons and the Engineers is set for 4 p.m. on McCooey Field.

ABOUT THE HERONS:
- William Smith (7-7) is coming off a 5-2 win over Houghton on Tuesday. Senior Lily Gutch scored a hat trick in the win.
- The Herons are 1-2 in Liberty League play with a win over St. Lawrence and a losses to Skidmore and Union.
- Senior Rebecca Mantione leads William Smith with 19 points (7G, 5A), followed by Gutch and sophomore Caroline Kogut with 12 points each. Mantione ranks fourth in the conference in points per game (1.36).
- Sophomore Hadley Harbert has recorded three defensive saves this season and ranks second in the Liberty League in defensive saves per game (0.21).
- First-year Olivia Terranova and sophomore Baker Jeremiah have shared time in goal for the Herons. Terranova is 4-5 on the season with a 2.09 GAA and a .710 save percentage. Jeremiah is 3-2 with a 3.15 GAA, and a .627 save percentage.
ABOUT THE ENGINEERS:
- RPI (7-4) is coming off a 6-1 win over St. Lawrence on Saturday. The Engineers are 1-2 in conference play after falling to Ithaca and Union.
- Sophia Brown leads the Engineers with 28 points on 13 goals and two assists. She is 18th in the nation in goals per game.
- Tess Garchinsky has played a majority of the minutes in goal for RPI. She is 6-3 on the season and has a 1.83 GAA and a .750 save percentage.
ABOUT THE SERIES:
- Saturday's matchup will be the 36th meeting between the Herons and the Engineers. William Smith leads the series 29-6, including a 17-2 edge in Geneva.
- Last season on Oct. 27, 2024, the Herons defeated the Engineers 4-2 in Troy, New York, to clinch a spot in the Liberty League playoffs. Kogut scored twice in the win.
