ANNAPOLIS, Md.—The Hobart and William Smith sailing team finished 12th at the Open Atlantic Coast Championship Final hosted by Navy this past weekend, Oct. 18-19.
Eighteen teams descended on Annapolis for the ACC Championship. Saturday's racing started with a delay as sailors waited for wind. A light breeze filtered in hovering around five knots. Six races were comntested in each division on the first day of the regatta. On Sunday, teams arrived to great conditions on the Severn River with the wind ranging from eight to 12 knots. The breeze built throughout the day and by the last set competitors were sailing in 15-20 knot winds with two-foot waves. An additional eight races were contested in each Division.
RACE RECAP
- Seniors Juan Carlos LaCerda Jones, Elijah Goldman and Valyn Mogensen and sophomore Sam Carson competed in A Division. They finished 12th with 154 points.
- LaCerda Jones competed as skipper with Mogensen competing in races 1-9, Carson in 10-12 and Goldman in 13 and 14.
- They were in the top 10 in five races.
- Juniors JJ Klempen and Stella Kim and senior Cooper Delbridge sailed in B Division, taking 12th with 154 points.
- Klempen served as skipper with Kim sailing in races 1-10 and Delbridge in races 11-14.
- They were in the top 10 six races.
- Harvard won the regatta.
UP NEXT
HWS will be back in action next weekend Oct. 25-26 for a pair of regattas. It will host the War Memorial Regatta at the Bozzuto Boathouse starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Heron sailors will head to Throggs Neck, New York, for the MAISA Fall Women's.
