#22 Herons conclude road trip at St. Lawrence

The William Smith soccer team, which was ranked 22nd in the United Soccer Coaches poll, when it travels north for a midweek clash against St. Lawrence on Wednesday, Oct. 22. The match is scheduled to begin at 3:30 p.m. on the Saints' Sandy MacAllaster Field. This will be the Herons' final game of their three-game road trip.
 
William Smith is 9-2-2 overall with a 5-1-0 mark in Liberty League play after defeating 17th-ranked Vassar 3-1 on Saturday. It was the Herons' fifth-straight win. Seniors Ruth Hotaling, Julia Accioly, and Julia Bragg all had goals in the win. Junior Antonia Goerke played all 90 minutes in goal and made five saves.
 
St. Lawrence is 7-4-3 overall and 3-2-0 in conference play. The Saints beat RIT 1-0 on Saturday.

  • Hotaling leads the league with 12 goals and 25 points.  She is 20th in the nation in game-winning goals (4), 22nd in goals per game (0.92) and 24th in total goals.

  • Sophomore Grace Metzler leads the Herons with four assists.
  • Goerke has played the majority of minutes in goal. She has a GAA of 0.80, an .844 save percentage and seven shutouts. Goerke is 14th in the nation in shutouts.

  • Meredith Donahue (5g, 2a) leads the team with 12 points.
  • Chloe Bourque has a team-high five assists.
  • Zoe Rogan has four goals this season.
  • Zoe Davenport has played the majority of minutes in goal, sporting a GAA of 1.17, a .759 save percentage and four shutouts.
 
ABOUT THE SERIES
  • Wednesday will be the 53rd meeting between the Herons and the Saints.
  • William Smith leads the all-time series 41-7-4, including a 17-5-2 mark in the North Country.
  • William Smith and St. Lawrence last met on Nov. 2, 2024. The Herons closed out the regular season with a 4-1 win in Geneva.
 
PLAYOFF PUSH
  • The Herons enter the week tied for first in the conference standings with Vassar with 15 points. If the teams remain tied for first, the Herons hold the head-to-head tiebreaker thanks to Saturday's victory.
  • William Smith can clinch a playoff spot with a victory over the Saints.
  • St. Lawrence is currently in the fifth spot in the standings with nine points. They enter the week two points out of a home playoff game and two ahead of sixth-place RIT.
