Statesmen edged by Golden Flyers 124-116

ROCHESTER, N.Y. -The Hobart swimming and diving team opened its season this afternoon as it took on Nazareth in a nonconference matchup. The Statesmen dropped its season-opener 124-116 to the Golden Flyers.
 
Junior Christopher Woody led Hobart with two first-place finishes against Nazareth. Woody won the 100-yard breaststroke after stopping the clock at 1:14.37 and the 200-yard Individual Medley after touching the wall at 2:35.45. He also collected two second place finishes after stopping the clock at 33.20 in the 50-yard breaststroke and 2:05.11 in the 200-yard Medley Relay with sophomore Payton Owens, first-year Joseph Thompson and sophomore Gerard Humiston.
 
Owens also impressed for the Statesmen as he won the 50-yard backstroke with a time of 35.95. He came in second in the 400-yard freestyle after stopping the clock at 5:16.88 and the 800-yard freestyle with a time of 11:09.44.
 
Humiston added a second-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:14.88 and the 100-yard freestyle after stopping the clock at 1:00.37. He added another second-place finish in the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:37.95 for the Statesmen.
 
First-year Steven Nolte led Hobart from the diving board, securing his first collegiate win from the 1-meter board with a score of 102.50.

Hobart will be back in action tomorrow, Oct. 25, when it travels to Ithaca, New York, to take on Ithaca and Worcester Polytechnic Institute. Action is set to begin at 1 p.m. in Ithaca's Kelsey Partridge Bird Natatorium.
