Bombers, Engineers swim past Herons at Ithaca Tri-Meet

ITHACA, N.Y. -The William Smith swimming and diving team traveled to Ithaca for a Tri-Meet with the Bombers and Worcester Polytechnic Institute this afternoon at Ithaca's Kelsey Partridge Bird Natatorium. The Herons fell 203-85 to WPI and 253-47 to Ithaca this afternoon and are now 1-2 on the season.
 
Junior Mackenzie Morus led William Smith this afternoon with a fourth-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly after touching the wall at 2:26.19. Senior Hali Seidberg finished closely behind in seventh at 2:30.11 in the same event. Seidberg went on to add an eighth place finish in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:06.89. She came in just behind first-year Lark Sallade, who finished seventh with a time of 1:06.40.
 
Junior Aurora Donta-Venman also impressed in the pool for the Herons, finishing eighth in the 1000-yard freestyle with a time of 12:10.97 and 10th in the 500-yard freestyle with a time of 6:03.43.
 
In the 200-yard backstroke event, sophomore Boglarka Olah touched the wall at 2:29.10 to claim seventh place, while junior Jayne Pearson finished closely behind in eighth with a time of 2:29.40.
 
Senior Lea Doufekias Emanuel claimed ninth place in the 200-yard freestyle for William Smith after stopping the clock at 2:14.59. Emanuel also played a big role in relay action as she joined Sallade, Seidberg and first-year Sofia Ciereck for a seventh-place finish in the 200-yard medley relay.
 
From the diving boards, sophomore Fiona Garfield led William Smith with a sixth-place finish on the 1-meter board after earning a score of 205.20. Sophomore Hannah Walsh added an eighth-place finish with a score of 172.55.

William Smith will be back in action Friday, Oct. 31, when it welcomes Alfred University to Geneva for its home-opener. Action between the Herons and the Saxons is set for 4 p.m. in Bristol Pool.
